How did Dan Briggs come to be diving in an Elvis suit? It was the Spring of 1994, and the New Mexico Tech Student Association decided it would be fun to have the Flying Elvises appear at their Spring Fling. The real Flying Elvi were out of their budget range, but Dan and some of his diving friends from Belen agreed to do it. (continued below photo)

So costumes were made, and the jump was performed, and everything went fine. I took this photo shortly after they landed. A year later, when Dan was about to leave Socorro for Washington, D.C., he discovered the Elvis costume in the bed of his pickup truck. Not wanting to carry it across the country, he left it in my garage. I eventually donated it to the Theater Dept. of the University of New Mexico, which had recently lost their costume collection in a fire.

So if anyone at UNM wants to dress up as Elvis, and happens to be 6'5" and weigh 180 lbs, they can do it!
