Dan's dissertation, on the image processing of moderately resolved sources observed with radio-interferometric arrays, was a stunningly complete piece of work. He proposed the process of "robust weighting," which was immediately recognized by others as a very useful technique and was adopted in many reduction packages. Wanna read his dissertation?
